Dream Big with the Latinitas/Sueña con las latinitas

Bilingual edition by Juliet Menéndez

The plastic artist Juliet Menendez, who calls herself Guatemalan-American, offers us this beautiful children’s book illustrated and written by herself, in which she pays tribute to the Latin female figures who have left their mark on our society.

With clear and inspiring language, Menendez tells us about the literary magic of Isabel Allende; of the beautiful way of singing, acting, and dancing of Rosita “Rita” Moreno; of the fight for freedom undertaken by Solange Pierre; of the artistic talent of Frida Kahlo; of the great ingenuity of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, as well as contributions by other amazing Latina icons.

I was fascinated by the beautiful watercolors that bring light to this beautiful children’s book in which Menéndez shows kids, and their parents, the universal legacies of the “latinitas whose dreams paved the way for your own little feet.”

Each page features English and Spanish accounts of the legacies of each of these stars, a very in-tune reading for this Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated in the United States!
