Emoni Santiago is a young student who, like many others, longs to make her way to a prestigious university when the time comes to graduate from high school. Her family, of Puerto Rican origin, has instilled in her the values of the Latino culture amid a somewhat hostile environment in a Hispanic neighborhood in Philadelphia.

However, an unplanned pregnancy shakes her aspirations, forcing her to change her lifestyle to alternate caring for her baby daughter, with classes during her senior school year, and with working hours at a fast-food restaurant.

Her grandmother, whom Emoni affectionately refers to as ‘Buela’, is the cornerstone of her life following the early death of her mother, and due to the constant absence of her father who lives in the beautiful Puerto Rican Island.

Emoni must put up with the bullying from her classmates by carrying out her role as a young single mother, with dignity. Her circumstances are extremely complicated given the economic shortcomings that make it difficult for her to aspire to a serious university education.

Passion that inspire her to dream about the possibility of being part of the trip to Spain, a program organized by her school to nurture their students’ aspiring culinary careers.

Will Emoni be able to see her dream of becoming a renowned chef come true? This cute and inspiring story will give you the answer. Bonus Reward: The novel contains recipes for delicious Caribbean dishes. Do not miss it!
